Opeyemi Babatunde Rahim, professionally known as Lyta, was born and raised in Kwara State into the Rahim family. Growing up in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State, Nigeria, Lyta’s musical journey unfolded at 13. His roots run deep in northern Nigeria, and his family, including his father and mother, has made Ajegunle their home, alongside Lyta’s siblings.

Lyta’s early exposure to the world of music can be traced back to his father, Lawal Raheem, who was a musician himself. Growing up surrounded by the rich melodies of artists like King Sunny Ade, Fela Kuti, and Ebenezer Obey, Lyta absorbed the diverse sounds of Nigerian music.

His journey to success took a significant turn in 2018 when he caught the attention of the acclaimed Nigerian music sensation Olamide.

Recognizing Lyta’s immense potential and exceptional talent, Olamide wasted no time offering him a record deal with YBNL Nation. This move gave the budding star a robust platform to showcase his musical prowess to a global audience. Lyta’s unique vocal artistry and charismatic stage presence quickly positioned him as one of the most promising young talents in the Nigerian music scene.

However, despite signing with YBNL Nation in 2018, Lyta’s stint with the label was relatively short-lived. In May 2019, he parted ways with YBNL Nation, citing contractual and personal issues. Reports surfaced that Olamide mentioned in a statement to Guardian Life that Lyta had not adhered to the promotion calendar set by YBNL. However, Lyta mentioned that his father advised him to leave the label, stating that he had a better offer that would boost his musical career, which unfortunately did not work out.

The public became aware of Lyta’s departure when Olamide unfollowed him on Instagram. Confirming his exit on Naijaloaded TV in May 2019, Lyta revealed that although he received payments ranging from 50,000 to 80,000 for shows, he never had a written contract with the label. 

In September 2019, Lyta made headlines as the newest signee to Doro Music, unveiling his musical journey with the release of his debut single under the label “Monalisa.” The track resonated well with Nigerians, quickly propelling him into the spotlight and expanding his fan base significantly.

The success of “Monalisa” did not go unnoticed, capturing the attention of Nigerian music heavyweight Davido, who promptly expressed interest in remixing the song. This collaboration further heightened Lyta’s visibility in the industry.

Following the triumph of “Monalisa,” Lyta continued to showcase his musical prowess by releasing another hit single, “Worry,” which garnered positive reviews from music critics. Both singles were released under the Doro Music label.

In 2020, Lyta embarked on a new chapter in his career by joining forces with Marlian Records, the brainchild of Naira Marley. Lyta’s personal life has been marked by fatherhood and a relationship with Kemi Ayorinde, widely known as Coco Brown. Currently residing in Manchester, United Kingdom, Kemi Ayorinde and her son, Aari Lawal, share a life-based in the vibrant city.

In a significant development, Lyta, the Nigerian singer, embraced fatherhood with the birth of his son, AariKemi Ayorinde, his girlfriend and the mother of his child, expressed her feelings on Instagram, disclosing her dissatisfaction with the singer.

The situation escalated as Lyta’s baby mama accused him of neglecting his parental responsibilities towards their son, Aari. In response to this, Kemi Ayorinde declared that Aari would now carry her last name and stated her intention to take full responsibility for their child’s upbringing.

However, the saga took a turn when Kemi later revealed that Lyta had apologized to her.
