Biography 

Maya Jama (born on August 14, 1994) is a prominent English DJ, television, and radio presenter. 

She co-hosted the BBC One program “Peter Crouch: Save Our Summer” with Peter Crouch and Alex Horne and serves as the presenter of “Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star” on BBC Three starting from its third series in 2021.

Early Life

Maya was born and brought up in Bristol, where she attended her primary and secondary education at Cotham School. She is of Somali and Swedish descent. Her father, Mr. Jama, spent most of his years in prison for violence-related crimes during much of his daughter’s childhood. She stopped visiting her Dad when she was 12 years old. 

She reconnected with her father as an adult while working on a documentary about young people with similar experiences.

Maya has built a close relationship with her mother, Sadie Jama, and the two have appeared on talk shows and attended events together. 

She grew up along with her brother, Omar Jama.

Career

Maya Jama moved to London in 2012 to start a media career, initially focusing on acting but eventually branching out into TV presenting and modeling. She began her presenting career as a teenager on JumpOff.TV and later worked for Sky UK. 

In 2014, Jama hosted a travelogue covering the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil for Copa90 and co-hosted the Copa90 nine-part World Cup Taxi series. She joined MTV as a presenter for The Wrap-Up in August 2014. 

Jama has hosted various events, including the 2017 Pre-Brit Awards Party and the MOBO Awards in 2017. She has also appeared on several TV shows, including Cannonball, Loose Women, The Circle, Stand Up to Cancer, Don’t Hate the Playaz, and A League of Their Road Trip. 

In 2020, she presented Peter Crouch: Save Our Summer on BBC One and The Big New Year’s In on New Year’s Eve. In 2021, she became the host of Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star and appeared as a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. 

In 2022, She was announced to host Simon Cowell’s new music competition gameshow, Walk The Line.

Personal Life

Maya has had several past romantic relationships, one of which was with UK rapper Stormzy.

Maya and Stormzy first crossed paths in 2015 at the Red Bull culture flash after they met backstage, where Stormzy filmed Maya on Snapchat as she was getting excited. The two then went to an after-party together. The following day, Maya interviewed Stormzy for MTV.

Maya and Stormzy‘s relationship ended in August 2019 when Maya moved out of their shared home. There were rumors in the tabloids that Stormzy may have cheated on Maya during their relationship, which may have contributed to the breakup. Some people even pointed to lyrics in Stormzy‘s songs as potential hints about his infidelity.

Maya and NBA player Ben Simmons got engaged in 2021 after a short dating period. Still, in the summer of 2022, The relationship was said to have ended due to their busy work schedules and the difficulties of maintaining a long-distance relationship. 

In July 2020, rumors circulated that Maya was romantically involved with Drake, as he mentioned her in one of his songs, although Maya is yet to acknowledge these rumors and comments.
