Biography 

Joseph Akinfenwa-Donus (born 21 May 1997), best known as Joeboy, was born into the Christian family of Mr&Mrs Akinfenwa-Donus.

Joeboy is one of the best and fastest-rising Artists in Nigeria who came into the Limelight after the release of his first debut single, “Baby,” in 2019. 

Early Life & Education

Joeboy seems to hit differently in the heart and ears of many. 

He was born into a Christian Yoruba family and learned music from a young age from his Father, who happened to be a Pianist and a brother who was among the choir in the church and also played guitar. 

This gave him a head-up on music. He mentioned that he’d always go with his brother to ID Cabasa’s studio. He grew up with a passion for making good music and a melodious voice.

Joeboy is a Lagos state born and brought up who began his musical career early in 16. He schooled in Lagos, Akoka, where he completed his primary education, attended the University of Lagos and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management.

Career

Joeboy recorded his first song, “Gbeseyin,” after he had been delivering short freestyles and covers to hit songs which he would post on different social media. 

He became popularly known with a song cover of Ed Sheeran’s song titled “Shape of you,” and it went out from Nigeria to other countries. Luckily he was spotted by Mr. Eazi, one of the influential Nigerian artists who is also the head of “emPawa Africa.” An organization designed to help grow talented young Artists in Africa. 

Joeboy got into emPawa Africa, and he delivered the expected. On 26 October 2018, Joeboy made a track with Mr. Eazi titled “Faaji.” Amongst the other thousands of participants, he was among the top hundred in the emPawa100. He received a grant, which was used to shoot a video for the ” Faaji ” song. He released a single titled “Baby.” 

‘Baby’ became generally accepted, and it hit 31million streams on YouTube. He also dropped another hit single titled “Beginning,” with his debut EP, Love & Light, in November 2019.

Joeboy has been featured with some prominent artists by most of the top Nigerian artists. He linked up with a DMW star, Mayorkun, and came out with another banger, “Don’t call me back,” which He included in his EP.

Joeboy also released another single, which was the first song in his debut album he titled “Somewhere Between Beauty and Magic.”

In August 2022, He released ‘Contour,’ his second single of the year. There’s a controversy on the particular song for which Asa allegedly sued Joeboy for copyright infringement.

He further released another single in October 2022 and tagged it ‘Likkle Riddim.’ 

Personal Life

Joeboy was born into a family of four, a girl and two other elder brothers into the family of Mr&Mrs Akinfenwa-Donus. He happens to be the last born of the family.

Joeboy doesn’t flaunt any of his family members or girlfriend in the media space. But He is said to be in a relationship.

He keeps his personal life private.
