Akanbi Bamidele Brett (born March 23, 1995) is professionally recognized as Cheque(Superboy Cheque). He is a Nigerian rapper and singer currently signed to PentHauze Music owned by a popular Nigerian rapper, Phyno.
Cheque became popularly known after the release of the song ‘Zoom’ which He released in September 2020.
Early Life
Cheque is a native of Ondo state, He was born and brought up in Ondo where He had his basic education and spent his formative years also.
He began his life as a regular kid and never had thought of becoming a recording artist someday. He started music in 2015, while He was 20 years into His university days. He began with freestyle and with the Joy of it, He posted them on his social media handle, and fortunately He was discovered by Phyno in 2019. Before He got signed to PentHauze He had his nickname as Kyle-B before he had it changed to Cheque himself.
The young Rapper is a close friend of Fireboy DML and BlaqBonez, they’ve been close friends back to their University days.
Education
Cheque had his basic education in Ondo state where he grew up. He got out with a BSc in Chemical Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University. He later moved to Lagos state to further his musical career Immediately after he graduated. The report has it that He is very brilliant and was a first-class student in the university for two years.
Career
The talented multi-genres artist started his musical journey in 2015 with singing, trap Rap, and RnB. He is a sweet trap rapper. He got signed by Phyno, the PentHauze CEO after he had come across his freestyles on Instagram. He was officially declared and welcomed into the family in February 2019. In March 2019, He released his first hit song ‘Nyem Space’ collaborating with one of the acts on the record label. This follows with his single songs titled Jekasoro(a Yoruba word meaning Let’s Talk), Pain away, and Abundance.
Before this, He had attended Rap battles and has also worked on the Hennessy cypher(VI) featuring Dark Poet, BlaqBonez, Kusor, Toosleek, and Eclipse. While trying to make a name for himself in the University and get himself to be known out there, He dropped an EP with the tag ‘Super Adventure Crew’ and was able to garner fans for himself while He was still with the name Kyle-B.
On the 3rd of July 2020, Cheque released an EP “Razor EP” with 5-tracks Zoom, Loco, Satisfied, Odin and Hollywood.
Zoom off the project became the leading song and garnered lots of fans across Nigeria. The music video was shot in Lagos and directed by Boy Director otherwise known as TG Omori. The EP rose to the top 5 in Nigeria iTunes within the 24hrs after it was released.
He was featured in Olamide’s 2020 album on a song titled ‘WarLords’.
On April 8, 2021, He released a hit song with Fireboy DML titled “History”. History became a sing-along song among many fans across.
Personal Life
Cheque is currently single and particularly taking his mucosal career seriously. He has not been spotted by any girl and hasn’t flaunted any girl on any of his social media pages yet.
He had kept his Family life private and hadn’t revealed if he is the only child or has other siblings.
