Rebecca Sara Newton (born July 4, 1978), most recognized as Becki Newton, is a talented and accomplished American actress who has made a name for herself through her impressive performances in a variety of T.V. shows and films. One of her most notable roles is that of Amanda Tanen in the popular T.V. series Ugly Betty.

Early Life

Rebecca Sara Newton, a gifted actress from New Haven, Connecticut, traces her origins back to her parents, Thomas Newton and Jennifer Newton, who were born as Jennifer Chase. Her lineage also includes a rich musical heritage, with her maternal grandfather, Bruce Chase, being a renowned composer and arranger and her grandmother Fannie Chase being a talented violinist. While there are rumors of a familial connection to actress Sienna Miller, there is no public confirmation to validate the claim.

After completing her education,  Rebecca moved to New York City and secured a role in television commercials for companies such as the Olive Garden. She also appeared in a PSA video titled “Keg Party,” produced by Human Relations Media, and aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of excessive drinking.

From 2006 to 2010, Rebecca played the character Amanda Tanen in the ABC comedy-drama series Ugly Betty. Alongside co-star Michael Urie, she co-hosted the show’s official podcast and starred in the web series Mode After Hours on ABC.com with Urie. The show was ultimately canceled in 2010 after four seasons.

In 2009, Rebecca performed at a New York City Center Encores! Presentation of the Gershwin musical Girl Crazy, directed by Jerry Zaks, in which she portrayed the character Molly Gray and performed opposite her real-life husband, Chris Diamantopoulos.

In 2011, She starred in the romantic comedy television series Love Bites, created by executive producer Cindy Chupack, known for her work on Sex and the City. NBC picked up the series in May 2010. Still, due to Rebecca’s pregnancy, co-star Jordana Spiro‘s contractual obligation to another show, and Chupack’s desire to leave the project, Love Bites was pushed to midseason and ultimately aired in July 2011. The series was canceled after the airing of its first-season episodes.

In November 2011, Rebecca was cast as Quinn Garvey on CBS’s How I Met Your Mother, a love interest for Neil Patrick Harris‘s character Barney Stinson, where she played a stripper. In 2013, Newton starred in the midseason Fox comedy series The Goodwin Games. In 2018, she began appearing in a recurring role on the HBO series Divorce, playing Jackie Giannopolis, the new girlfriend of Thomas Haden Church’s character.

 In September 2019, She and Urie announced a partnership for a sitcom project, “Fun,” for CBS and Warner Bros. Television, but the pilot did not move forward. In February 2021, She was cast as Lorna Taylor in the upcoming Netflix series “The Lincoln Lawyer,” replacing Kiele Sanchez.

Personal Life

Actress Rebecca Sara met her husband, actor Chris Diamantopoulos, in a New York subway station, and they married on May 12, 2005. In 2010, they announced they were expecting their first child, a son born in November of that year. They later had a daughter in 2014 and another in 2020.

 Rebecca’s older brother, Matt, is also an actor known for his role in “Ugly Betty.” Her mother, Jennifer, is an artist, and her aunt, Stephanie Chase, is a classical violinist.
