John Magaro was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, into the family of James Magaro. His parents were Italian and Jewish, and he grew up in Munroe Falls, Ohio. His father, James Magaro, was a teacher, while his mother, Wendy Magaro, was also a teacher.

Magaro’s formative years were spent in Munroe Falls, and he attended the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District. It was during this time that he discovered his passion for acting. Eager to pursue his interest, he became involved in the local theater scene, participating in productions in Akron and at renowned venues like the Cleveland Play House, the Kent State Porthouse Theatre at Blossom Music Centre, and the Weathervane Playhouse.
