Early Life

Elizabeth Folake Cambage, commonly known as Liz Cambage, was born on August 18, 1991, in London, England, to an Australian mother named Julia Cambage and a Nigerian father whose identity has not been made public. Sadly, her parents’ relationship did not last long; they separated just three months after her birth.

Following her parents’ separation, Cambage and her mother relocated to Australia, where they initially settled in Eden, New South Wales, before moving to Melbourne when Liz was ten. Eventually, the family moved to Mornington Peninsula.

Growing up, Cambage showed a keen interest in sports, particularly basketball. She started playing basketball at age ten and quickly rose through the ranks, showcasing her natural talent and ability on the court. 

Cambage attended the Australian Institute of Sport and played for the Australian under-20 team before making her professional debut in the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) at 16.

Liz Cambage‘s basketball career began at a young age when she started playing the sport at 10. She quickly developed her skills and talent, and by the age of 16, she made her professional debut in the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) with the Bulleen Boomers.

In 2011, at 19, She was selected second overall by the Tulsa Shock in the WNBA draft. She played for the team for two seasons before being traded to the Dallas Wings in 2017. During the 2018 season with the Wings, Cambage set a WNBA record for the most points scored in a single game with 53 points.

Cambage has also played for various professional teams worldwide, including the Zhejiang Golden Bulls in China, the Dandenong Rangers in Australia, and the Melbourne Boomers in the WNBL.

Cambage has also represented Australia internationally, winning a bronze medal at the 2014 FIBA World Championship and a silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She is also a three-time Olympian, representing Australia at the 2012 London Olympics, the 2016 Rio Olympics, and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Cambage has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including being named to the WNBL All-Star Five three times, the WNBA All-Star team twice, and the WNBL MVP in 2011.
