Bonang Matheba was born and raised in Mahikeng, Northwest Province, South Africa, by her parent, Gampi Matheba, a senior lecturer at North-West University and her mother, Charlotte Mokoena,  Executive Vice-President for Human Resource and Corporate Affairs of Sasol.

In her formative years, Bonang shared her upbringing with her siblings, including her sister, Reabetswe Sechoaro, and her brother, Thabo Mokoena. Her educational journey led her to complete high school at Fourways High School in Johannesburg.
