Biography
Michael Adebayo Olayinka (born September 23, 1999), professionally known and recognized as Ruger, is a popular Nigerian singer and songwriter signed to Jonzing World Entertainment.
Ruger rose to stardom after being announced and affirmed as the Latest signee of the Jonzing World Entertainment, followed by his “Pandemic” EP.
Early Life
The 22-years celeb was born into a Yoruba home with a Christian background. He got his native name as Adebayo.
Ruger began his life as a musical person right when he was younger and was actively involved in his church choir as a chorister and one of the songwriters. He wrote and performed in his church and School, where He was also in the choir.
He grew up listening to Hip hop songs and was influenced by some of the influential artists in the music industry, both the international artist and local acts.
At age 10, Ruger began composing hip-hop songs from his regular church composition and would perform in School. He earns a nickname for himself while in School as “Mikki Drey.” He was popularly known in the School, and he began thrilling his mates with freestyle.
He performs at school parties and events outside the School with his formerly known stage name, ‘Mikki Drey.’
He was loved, and with his tune, He got referrals and invitations to perform at local shows, garnering a few fans along the line.
Education
Ruger was born and raised in Lagos State, where he had his first School leaving certificate from an esteemed primary and secondary school.
He is currently an undergraduate at a reputable university in Nigeria.
Career
Ruger’s career officially started on July 18, 2020, where He was picked up by D’Prince of Jonzing World Entertainment after He had heard him and was interested in Him.
D’Prince took in the young star and tutored him.
Ruger was determined and ready to learn. He got better with time. He became officially signed to the family and was formally announced as part of the Jonzing World Entertainment family on January 18, 2021.
He rose to prominence after releasing his first debut EP, ‘Pandemic’ on March 5, 2021.
The 6-track EP became a booming track in 2021 during the Covid-19 breakout and lockdown.
‘Bounce‘ off the EP gave him massive recognition and streams online. The song flew above the Nigerian border and became an international hit. He was able to garner up a lot of fans during this period, and with this EP, He became popularly known.
His second EP, “Second Wave,” was released on November 19, 2021, but this time, a 4-track EP with two hit songs’ SnapChat’ and ‘Dior.’
The song ‘Dior’ debuted at number one on the top100 Nigeria on Apple Music.
The massive success of this second album paved the opportunity for Ruger to venture on his first international tour in the United state.
He also performed in countries like Portugal, the UK, Germany, Sweden, and Malta.
He released his third EP, “Second Wave Delux,” on June 17, 2022, after he had announced it on his social media.
The EP was just an additional single, Girlfriend, Wewe, and Warning to his former project.
‘Girlfriend,’ which came with a new dance step, hit differently with massive streams and airplay and has also become the most listened to on the Deluxe Album.
Personal Life
Ruger is 23 years old as of 2022 and currently living in a well-furnished apartment in Lekki, leased out by his management.
There have been rumors of him being in a relationship with a Nigerian Model who is also an actress, Susan Pwajok.
Although, during an interview hosted by one of the famous comedians in Nigeria, Broda Shaggi, He stated that He and Susan are just friends and best friends from way back.
His fans didn’t really buy into the story despite being seen a couple of times together. A few days after the interview, He took to his Social Media to announce that He and Susan were actually in a relationship.
“Ok, @susanpwajok is my girlfriend. Y’all can get off her d**k now, thank you,” he wrote.
However, it has not been confirmed if it isn’t just a makeup story not confirmed the fact about it yet.
Ruger is signed into Jonzing Music Entertainment with a publishing and distribution deal with Columbia Records and Sony Music Entertainment, U.K.
He is a close friend to Rema. Unlike Ruger, Rema is signed into Jonzing Music Entertainment and co-signed to Mavin Records.
Ruger happens to be the only child of Mr&Mrs Olayinka, although not so much is known about his parent as He tends to keep that private.
Ruger is always seen wearing a one-eye patch, and most believe one of his eyes is bad. Meanwhile, his eyes are perfectly ok, but the patch is just for a unique identity purpose.
During an interview hosted by Nancy Isime, He stated that he wears that to constantly remind him and as a sign of respect to someone very dear to him who lost one eye but was still very strong until He passed away.
He also mentions that it signifies him as a sniper who closes one eye when aiming for a target.
He further explains that His Name, Ruger is the name of a gun that goes with his stage name. He said that just like a sniper, He closes one eye to enable him to focus on the right thing to target, relating it to music.
