Early Life
Jorja is an English artist born and raised in Walsall to a Jamaican father, Peter Smith and her Mother, of English descent.
Her father was a benefits officer and a former musician who sang in the Neo-Soul Group, 2nd Naicha, while her mother, Jolene Smith, is a jewellery designer.
Jorja grew up alongside her siblings, her younger brother, Luca Smith and her two cousins, Rangers and Kemal Roofe.
She developed a keen interest in music from a younger age and began taking piano classes at 8, under her father’s guidance and encouragement.
Jorja‘s musical abilities flourished, and she was granted a scholarship to Aldridge School’s music program, where she learned to play the oboe and studied classical music. Her exceptional talent caught the attention of a talent manager when she was 15 years old, leading her to travel to London frequently. During this time, she had the privilege of working with Ed Thomas and Maverick Suber in collaborative writing sessions.
At 18, She decided to relocate to London fully. While pursuing her passion for music and songwriting, she also worked as a barrister.
Career
Jorja was already recognized as a talented songwriter in the entertainment industry. Maverick Suber co-signed her in early 2015.
In 2016, she released her first debut single, Blue Lights, which samples Dizzee Rascal‘s song, Siren.
In May 2016, she released a follow-up single titled, Where Did I Go. The song was well-received among fans, critics and music enthusiasts. It got the attention of a prominent American Rapper, Drake, who mentioned that the song was his best song of the moment during an interview for Entertainment Weekly.
In November 2016, Jorja released her debut four-track EP tagged “Project 11.”
This EP further expanded her popularity in the music industry and earned her the opportunity to perform as a guest artist in Drake’s Boy’s Meet World Tour in 2017.
She was also featured on Drake‘s mixtape, More Life, where she featured on two tracks.
Her performance and lyrics have garnered her a strong fan base, and she has worked with several other talented and prominent artists in the industry, including Stormzy, where she featured on his song “Let Me Down”, She performed alongside Bruno Mars at his 24k Magic World Tour and many other artists.
In April 2018, Jorja released her debut album, Lost & Found, which was well-received. Shortly after, she began touring across Europe and in festivals in Japan.
In August 2019, she released a single, Be Honest, featuring a popular Nigerian artist, Burna Boy.
In 2020, She released two singles, “By Any Means” and “Come Over”, in which he featured Popcaan.
