Emilia Isobel Euphemia Rose Clarke (Born October 23, 1986) is a renowned British actress and model best recognized professionally as Emilia Clarke. She is known popularly for her notable performances in the entertainment industry. Emilia is also recognized as the popular face in the popularly acclaimed Original Netflix series Game of Thrones and other notable TV series and movies in Hollywood.

Early Life & Education

Emilia Clarke is a British actress and model born in London in 1986. Her mother’s side of the family is Indian, and she was raised in Oxfordshire. 

The maternal grandmother of Clarke was the product of a covert relationship; she covered up her darker skin tone with light cosmetics. Her grandma went to India to scatter her ashes after she passed away since she loved India more than England. 

Bennett Clarke, her older brother, is employed in the entertainment business and was a Game of Thrones camera crew member. At the age of three, Clarke developed an interest in acting. He attended St. Edward’s School in Oxford and Rye St. Antony School in Headington. Because of her traditional upbringing, she felt alienated even though she attended affluent boarding schools.

She first applied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and later attempted the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and the Royal Academy but failed after graduating. 2009 saw her graduate from Drama Centre London.


Emilia Clarke‘s acting career started in school, where she participated in West Side Story and Twelfth Night student productions. After graduating from theatre school in 2009, she held several non-acting positions. An uncredited cameo in a 2009 episode of the British serial drama Doctors marked Clarke’s debut on television. In the 2010 television movie Triassic Attack, she was chosen for her first professional film role as Savannah.

Clarke portrayed Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones from 2011 to 2019. Her portrayal of Daenerys, which follows an arc from a scared girl to a strong woman, won her praise from critics. Clarke was nominated for and won numerous awards for her performance, including three Primetime Emmy Awards as the Most Outstanding and Supporting Actress in a Drama Series from 2013-2016 and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama during the 2011 EWwy Awards.

In April 2019, Clarke also appeared in a cameo during Kit Harington’s monologue on Saturday Night Live. He contributed her voice and image to the video game of the same name released in 2014. Alongside Jude Law, she also acted in the dark comedy-crime drama picture Dom Hemingway.

She was chosen to play Sarah Connor in the science fiction action movie Terminator Genisys (2015) in 2013, which did well at the box office despite receiving negative reviews. She received nominations for the 2016 Jupiter Awards’ Best International Actress and Teen Choice Award for Choice Summer Movie Star in the Female category for her performance.

In the 2017 supernatural psychological thriller Voice from the Stone, she portrayed Nurse Verena. In November 2016, she was chosen to play the female lead in Solo: A Star Wars Story, the second-lowest-grossing Star Wars movie, but it garnered positive reviews from critics.

In 2019, Clarke was chosen for the lead role in Phillip Noyce’s thriller Above Suspicion, based on a thriller by Joe Sharkey.

With parts in movies including McCarthy, Last Christmas, The Seagull, The Pod Generation, The Beauty Inside, Let Me Count the Ways, Secret Invasion, and An Ideal Wife, among others, Clarke has had a varied career. 

Inspired by Will Ferrell’s Elf character, she starred in Last Christmas and was chosen for the animated movie The Amazing Maurice. She was chosen for the English translation of The Beauty Inside and starred in The Pod Generation in 2022. 

Additionally, Clarke will feature in the biographical McCarthy and the film An Ideal Wife, which stars Irish writer Constance Lloyd. Positive reviews and a stormy release have defined her career, positioning her as a rising star in the entertainment business.

Emilia Clarke currently resides in London, where she dwelt on her career and lifestyle. As an actress well-known for her parts in Game of Thrones, she’s reportedly faced criticism growing up. Her exaggerated eyebrows caused her to be teased as a child, and in 2011, she had a subarachnoid hemorrhage. After surgery, Clarke developed aphasia, making it difficult for her to utter her name. 

In 2014, fans of AskMen voted her the most beautiful woman on the planet, and in 2015, Esquire pronounced her the Sexiest Woman Alive. She has also been featured on lists of the 100 Sexiest Women in the World by FHM and the Best Dressed Women of 2017 by Glamour.
