Early Life & Education

Adebayo was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, into the family of the legendary and respected actor Adebayo Salami, known as Oga Bello. He grew up alongside 12 siblings in a polygamous home. Some of his renowned siblings include  Tope Adebayo, Lai Adebayo, Kemi Adebayo, Sadiq Adebayo, and Omolara Adebayo.

Femi Adebayo did his secondary education at C&S College, Ilorin, Kwara State. Continuing his academic journey, he enrolled at the University of Ilorin, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws degree. Frustrated in his quest for knowledge, he went further to the University of Ibadan, where he obtained a master’s Degree in Law.


Femi Adebayo Salami embarked on his illustrious career in the Nigerian film industry with a groundbreaking move – the release of the modern Yoruba movie “IDANWO” in 2006. This marked the beginning of a journey that would establish him as a significant figure in both Yoruba and English films. His foray into the industry was marked by early recognition, as he clinched “THE MOVIE AWARDS” for “BEST UPCOMING ACTOR OF THE YEAR 1996” in Nigeria, showcasing his remarkable talent and promise in the field.

Adebayo’s acting journey gained momentum with notable performances in films such as “Owoblo” and “Oba-Eleson,” setting the stage for a prolific career. His filmography boasts an array of impactful projects, including “Tojo-Terun,” “Baba-Ologba,” “Idanwo,” “Shola Fe Pami,” “Ikan,” “Aranbada,” “The Power of Woman,” “Mayomi,” “Ole,” “Inu,” “Orija ju Ogun,” “Ogologo,” “Fitila,” “Ile,” and numerous others.

Having made his acting debut in Tade Ogidan’s “Owoblo” in 1995, Femi Adebayo continued to amass accolades, with a standout year in 2020 where he clinched four awards, including the prestigious Best Yoruba Actress at the 17th African Film Awards (Afro Hollywood) and the Best of Nollywood Award (BON) in 2012.

In 2021, Adebayo further solidified his impact in the industry by releasing the blockbuster “Agesinkole (King of Thieves).” The subsequent year, 2023, saw the emergence of the iconic “JagunJagun,” a Netflix sensation and the standout success of the year. Adebayo showcased his filmmaking prowess in “Sonto Alapata,” “Gold You Phadaka,” “Ma Wobadan,” and the intense “Buga,” showcasing his versatility as an actor and director.

Beyond his achievements in the film industry, Femi Adebayo has assumed a leadership role as the MD/CEO of J-15 Media Network Nigeria, underscoring his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to contributing to the growth and development of the media landscape in Nigeria.

Femi Adebayo is a proud father of four kids, three being from his previous marriage with Khadijat Adebayo before their divorce. He remarried again in 2016 with Omotayo Maimunat Sanusi, and their marriage was blessed with a son.
