Surachai Romruen (born February 8, 1989; Age: 35 years) is a highly acclaimed Thai-Australian actor whose remarkable talent has left an indelible mark on the movie industry. Professionally recognized as Chai Hansen, he has garnered widespread acclaim for his outstanding performances, bringing a unique and captivating essence to each of his roles.

Early Life

Chai Hansen was born and raised in Ko Samui, Thailand, under the guidance of his father, Superut Romruen and his mother, Sandra Romruen, who was from Australia. Being of mixed ethnicity descent, he once lived with his Thai Father in Thailand, where he was born and brought up. 

At the age of seven, his life took a turn when his mother decided to return to Australia, prompting him to relocate alongside his sister, Sarah Romruen. Consequently, Chai’s formative years unfolded in the diverse landscapes of Australia, where he not only grew up but also etched his personal history in the fabric of the country’s cultural tapestry.


Chai Hansen embarked on his professional journey in the Australian entertainment scene during his teenage years, passionately pursuing his dreams in acting. As time unfolded, his talent and dedication caught the attention of industry insiders, leading to a significant breakthrough in 2011 when he secured a role in the international television series, “Mako Mermaids.” 

Hansen showcased his acting prowess in this captivating series, delivering an outstanding performance alongside co-star Alex Cubis. The dynamic duo portrayed mermen in seasons two and three, sharing the screen with talents like Lucy Fry and Isabel Durant, who portrayed mermaids.

Continuing to hone his skills, Hansen made a mark in the fourth season of the popular series “The 100,” where he took on the recurring role of Ilian, demonstrating his versatility as an actor. Subsequently, he embarked on a new and exciting venture, portraying the iconic character Monkey in “The New Legends of Monkey,” a modern retelling of the beloved story Journey to the West.

In early 2018, Hansen added another feather to his cap by securing a recurring role in the third season of “Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments.” Here, he portrayed Jordan Kyle, a werewolf seeking atonement, further showcasing his ability to bring depth and complexity to his characters.

As Hansen’s reputation as a formidable talent grew, he landed a significant role in the Amazon “Night Sky” series in May 2021. Cast as JudeHansen assumed a series of regular positions, cementing his presence in the industry and reaffirming his status as a force to be reckoned with in entertainment.
